This is truly a very salutary plan, but it is hidden before their eyes. For God thinks: “I will first mortify both of them because I will benefit not only them but I will also have regard for all of Egypt through them,” This was God’s purpose and good pleasure at that time, however sad and troublesome the outward appearance of being disregarded by God was. Let us therefore look at this example as often as we are afflicted and tempted, and let us stoutly resist the flesh when it rages and is angry.
